Little Sparks Ministry

Welcome.... This Ministry provides services to infants and toddlers during Sunday morning worship services. Our Nursery age children here at Hickory Creek are very important to us. They are the future of Hickory Creek Church.

We believe Little Sparks Nursery is.........Where the beginning "sparks" of a relationship with Jesus are established"

Our mission is taken from the words of Jesus, "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes Me" (Mark 9:37). We want to serve Jesus as we welcome your little ones in His name. We want to serve these little ones, knowing that nursery is likely to be their first experience of the love of Go through the body of Christ. We want to serve you, the parents, by giving you the opportunity to worship with the freedom of knowing that your children are being well–cared for.

Nursery Volunteers-
The nursery is staffed by loving and responsible parents and volunteers who regularly attend Hickory Creek Community Church. We believe it is an important responsibility to make sure each child is well cared for.

Arrivals-
Upon arrival at our nursery, A Volunteer will greet you and assist you with signing your child into our care. Please be sure to note any information that will help us care for your child, including allergies or other special needs.

Name Tags-
We provide name tags for each child and for their belongings. Each tag has up your child’s name on it and their assigned number. If they have an allergy it will be posted on the name tag also.

Health-
In order to maintain a healthy nursery, we require that children who are ill or have been ill within the past 24 hours remain out of the church nursery. Qualifying illnesses include: fever, excessive (or colored) runny nose, rash, cough, flu, diarrhea, or a contagious childhood disease.

Cleanliness-
Each week the Nursery is vacuumed and cleaned. Tables are washed down with antibacterial cleaner and the toys are sanitized.

Activities-
Our activities range from coloring, story time, small crafts, and singing nursery songs. If the weather is nice we will take the children outside to play on the church swing set.

Curriculum-
Each week we have a short Bible lesson with the 2 and 3 year olds.

Snacks-
Snacks and juice boxes will be provided weekly. If your child has any allergies please notify one of the teachers and we will provide a substitute for him or her.

If at anytime during the service your child or volunteer needs you, the number you were assigned to at registration will display on the screen in the sanctuary. If you see your number displayed please come back to the nursery and a volunteer will greet you.

The gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ’s life, death and resurrection, changes everything. It not only incorporates us into the family of God, but it turns us into completely new creations in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17), and it is the all-encompassing center and heart of the life Jesus has called us to. In other words, the gospel is extremely powerful, which is why our Power Zone Kids Ministry is centered on that powerful message.

A SUNDAY IN THE POWER ZONE

Each Sunday in the Power Zone begins with all of the children, 4yrs old through 5th grade, gathering together for a time of worship through music, teaching, and prayer.

After this time of joint worship, children are dismissed to their classrooms, where they are taught an age-appropriate, Bible-centered lesson.

SAFETY & SECURITY

In addition to helping your child grow in his or her faith, we are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for your child to learn in. Parents are given a “Pick-up/Drop-off” card. As a security measure, whoever is responsible for picking up your child must return this card to your child’s teacher before they are released. Also, if assistance is needed with your child at any point during the service, the number in the top left corner of your card will appear on the projection screen in the sanctuary, alerting you to come to the children’s ministry area.

QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, OR CONCERNS

The Power Zone Kids Ministry exists to glorify God by serving parents and children, and we count it a privilege that you would allow us to participate in the spiritual formation of your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please give us a call.

As a church, we value kids of all ages and desire to help disciple the youth of our church and community into a solid generation of Christ followers.  The heartbeat of Hickory Creek’s Student Ministry is Thursday Nights. Impact is our Jr. High Youth Group program for kids in grades 6th-8th. Each Thursday kids meet for an evening of interaction, excitement, prayer, and time in God’s Word.  We also have various activities throughout the year to help foster friendships, reach unbelievers, and grow our students in their faith.

STUDENT MINISTRIES MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of the Hickory Creek Community Church Student Ministries is to glorify God by doing our part to fulfill the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20 and to model the practices of the church in Acts 2:41-47.  At the heart of each of these biblical passages are evangelism and discipleship, which we summarize in the motto “Go Wide, Grow Deep.”

  • Go Wide – Evangelism-  Through the power of God, we endeavor to accomplish this by:

    1. Training students to share their faith
    2. Encouraging students to invite their unsaved friends to the weekly youth meetings
    3. Presenting the gospel at every youth meeting
    4. Organizing outreach events

  • Grow Deep Discipleship-  Through the power of God, we endeavor to accomplish this by:

    1. Focusing on the core truths of Christianity at regular youth group meetings
    2. Offering opportunities beyond normal youth group meetings for interested students to grow even deeper in their faith
    3. Raising the expectations of youth ministry from “fun-and-games” and “babysitting” to in-depth discipleship training

STUDENT MINISTRY CORE VALUES

  • Worship (Acts 2:42) – Worship is ultimately a lifestyle lived for the glory of God, though it is expressed in public meetings through the reading and teaching of God’s Word, prayer, music, the arts, and other means.

    1. We desire for our youth meetings to be a place where students can worship God together through these varied avenues, and will offer opportunities regularly for them to do this.

  • Fellowship (Acts 2:42, 44-45) – Social interaction is an integral part of helping students come to Christ and grow in their walk with Christ.

    1. We offer opportunities for social interaction at each youth meeting (food, games, etc.), making sure that these aspects serve our overall goals (evangelism, discipleship, worship, fellowship, ministry) and do not become our focus.
    2. We meet regularly in small groups to allow greater interaction, accountability, and growth in relationship.
    3. We offer opportunities outside of normal youth meetings for students to enjoy fellowship and connect socially with others.  We will also strive to make these opportunities for students to invite their unsaved and/or unconnected friends to participate in.

  • Parental Involvement (Deut. 6:4-9) – We understand the absolute necessity of parental leadership in the spiritual growth of their teens. We will endeavor in as many ways as are possible to equip and encourage parents to lead in the discipleship of their children. Our desire is to be a supplement to and resource for the spiritual mentoring that is occurring in the homes of our students.

TBDTBD IN A NUTSHELL

At TBD we have chosen to harness culture rather than run from it, to connect with students in the Lincoln Way area, and teach them God's timeless-truths.

We are following the example set by Jesus when He said in Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost”.

We believe fully in a “both/and” philosophy of engaging culture to meet students where they are at and introduce them to who Jesus is, and at the same time teach them the word of God so that they will grow deeper in their faith in Christ, and knowledge of His word.

HERE AT TBD WE USE A “THREE PRONGED” APPROACH TO OUR MINISTRY:

TBD
1. We gather on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:45, and this time is intentionally evangelical in nature. We use this time for social interaction, games, competitions, and learning timeless truths during our teaching time every week straight from God’s word, the Bible.
TBD
2. We offer opportunities for our students to go deeper by making available deep level Bible studies, growing in our knowledge of, and relationship with, God as revealed through His inspired word.
TBD
3. We offer a Discipleship class for students who want to learn even more about Theology, Doctrine, and how to effectively share their faith through Evangelism.

MOPS BACKGROUND:

MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers, a program designed to encourage mothers with children from infancy through kindergarten. These women come from different backgrounds and lifestyles, yet have similar needs and a shared desire to be the best mothers they can be!

A MOPS group provides a caring, accepting atmosphere for today’s mother of preschoolers. Here she has an opportunity to share concerns, explore areas of creativity and hear instruction that equips her for the responsibilities of family and community. MOPS meetings typically include time for socialization, guest speakers, small group discussions, crafts, food, and fellowship.

During the MOPS meetings, children are cared for within the MOPPETS program. They are divided into groups based upon their age and are given loving care by the dedicated workers and volunteers. Older children will spend time learning valuable Bible lessons, doing crafts, playing games, and having plenty of fun!

MEETING INFO:

Join us on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month from September 13th through May.
We will meet at the church from 9:15 – 11:15 am.
